Palm Beach was largely founded by Henry Morrison Flagler in the early 1890s. Flagler, a co-founder of Standard Oil and owner of the Florida East Coast Railway, recognized the potential of the area and set about developing it as a luxury resort destination for the wealthy elite of his time.
